As the weather changes from hot to cold and vice versa, you could find that your existing uPVC door becomes difficult to close and lock. This is a classic sign that the door is no longer square in the frame and needs a service. If left, this may damage the locking mechanism or a door that won’t lock or unlock.
Will the door lock when open?
There is a perfect test of what is wrong with your door initially. First, open the door and lift the handle while it is still ajar. If the key turns and the handle is solid- mechanically, there is a good chance that nothing is broken, which is a good sign regarding costs. If the handle isn’t solid, there is now a chance that the multipoint lock is broken.
What next?
If the mechanism is still in good working order, it is time for the door to be serviced. This could mean looking at the hinges or the keeps on the frame. Sometimes, the centre panel fixed by a series of plastic packers is no longer square. This means the door needs “toe and heeling.” This can all look relatively simple and something anyone can do! However, in my experience, people tend to make matters worse and should have left it alone.
If the mechanism has failed, we can change it, and it won’t be a drama. We do it all the time and have all the parts required for such an event.
How quickly can you attend?
We appreciate that you possibly need this done today and will try to have you secure the same day you call. I can not guarantee this, as I have noticed that others do. But there are situations in which we are fully booked that day or even on holiday. What we do say is if we can – we will. Promising to turn up and then letting customers down is not how we operate.
